It is a great experience to get to know and bond at home with an enthusiastic student who dares to leave the safe home environment behind and to build a whole new temporary life in another country. As a family, you learn a lot about yourself, the culture of your host child and also about your own environment, which looks very special to a host child. After their year in the Netherlands, the contacts usually continue: you get a bonus son or daughter. Ties for life, in other words!
Job tasks and duties
We are looking for hospitable families who would like to welcome an exchange pupil into their home and hearts.
Enthusiastic schoolchildren between 15 - 18 years old come to the Netherlands in August to spend a trimester or a school year in our province.
They live with a host family, go to school and learn the language quickly. An AFS pupil simply joins the family, with all rights and obligations. The family provides board and lodging, the pupil has pocket money for activities and the organisation takes care of insurance and school expenses. Host families are supervised by volunteers in the area.
Job skills and qualities
A host family is welcoming, flexible, warm and interested in other people and cultures. All types of families are welcome - because all our exchange students are unique. Together, we look at who is the best match for the host family.
