At De Blije Bodem, we offer a volunteer spot with broad possibilities: as a young project, we are still fully under construction in setting up the regenerative self-harvesting garden. Just a cycling quarter from the centre of Groningen, we are trying to transform a badly damaged piece of land into a green oasis that everyone can come and enjoy. We grow vegetables, herbs and flowers, but are also creating seating areas and other structures. This allows you, as a volunteer, to help both with the physical construction of the garden, as well as taking care of the plants with the gardener. We like it if you want to put up or create something in the garden with your own idea. One of our goals is to create an educational garden, so with us there is always something to learn. The garden is set up as a public regenerative self-harvesting garden. Regenerative, in short, means that we want to invite a piece of land with little (soil) life to flourish again, creating a green oasis in the city. The public and self-harvesting part of our garden ensures that during your work, in addition to interacting with our team, you will also come into contact with the garden's wide range of participants and visitors.
Job tasks and duties
We are looking for a carpenter who enjoys helping us build structures. These might include compost bins, nice seating areas, wood storage, growing tables and much more.
Job skills and qualities
Able to independently devise and execute safe and sturdy contructions. What is needed goes in consultation and, if necessary, the form/construction plan. We work with reusable materials as much as possible. If you like to transfer your knowledge and skills, building is also possible in cooperation with the other volunteers or by organising a workshop.
