You help a 5-year-old with African roots boy (and sister) who cannot keep up well with language (special education), his African mother cannot support him in this. By doing so, you really make a difference. But it's about having fun and giving confidence.
Job tasks and duties
You will spend an hour every week with this family. A parent is present and probably the younger sister will also come to watch. You talk a little with the child. What are his interests, what keeps him busy? You will look at picture books together and read them aloud, and perhaps sing some songs and do some drawing, for example. Playing (language) games is also fun. It is really about language fun and self-confidence. After all, he is already being taught at school.
Minimum education level: hbo/wo
Job skills and qualities
You speak and read Dutch and have an interest in other cultures and would like to contribute to Dutch language fun and language development within this family. We hope that if it clicks, you would like to commit to the family for a somewhat longer period of time (school year or at least six months). Then it will feel seen.
Extra information
We have not yet met this family but hope to get you excited in advance. One of our volunteer coordinators will make an introductory appointment with you and with the family. And will exchange information about this with both parties. If it seems interesting, a matchmaking meeting follows. This coordinator remains available at a distance and is happy to think along with you. Every month, we hold an introductory meeting for new volunteers who want to read aloud, and there are also a number of online training courses. We also have regular theme meetings and information meetings for extra information and mutual exchange.
