You sometimes hear stories of someone falling and lying on the ground for hours. Not everyone has a strong social network and it can just happen that someone remains under the radar. Distressing situations that we want to prevent with our Contact Circle. A Contact Circle consists of a group of people who phone each other every day to ask if everything is going well. If a participant does not answer, the Red Cross volunteer calls a contact to go and take a look. The Contact Circle is there for people living alone, old and young who need daily contact.
Groningen Stad already has a well-run contact circle. We also want to set up a second circle to reach even more people. Do you want to make a difference?
As a volunteer, you contribute to the work of the Red Cross. That makes you feel good! You get the chance to develop your talents and work together with motivated and enthusiastic volunteers and staff. The Red Cross reimburses travel expenses and ensures you are insured while carrying out your work. The Red Cross also provides courses and/or training to help you perform your job. At the Red Cross we work according to our Fundamental Principles and Code of Conduct.
Job tasks and duties
- You will actively work to publicise the circle and thus recruit new participants in the province of Groningen.
- As a volunteer, you will start the telephone circle every day and call the first participant on the list. Each participant calls the next person on the list. At the end of the list, the Contact Circle closes with a call to you. This completes the circle. Knowing that if you don't hear someone will come to your home address and call for help if necessary is reassuring.
- A quarterly work meeting is held with your team.
- Together you organise an annual social gathering with all participants.
Minimum education level: lbo/mavo/vmbo
Job skills and qualities
Our ideal candidate:
- Has a friendly way of communicating, empathy and patience.
- At ease with the target group of the Contact Circle, often these are elderly people.
- Is available for about 0-4 hours per week and for a longer period.
- Stands behind the objectives of the Red Cross.

With its Well Prepared activities, the Red Cross focuses on preparing for emergencies and accidents in and around the home. During emergencies, people rely primarily on themselves and others in the immediate vicinity before professional help arrives. In every neighbourhood lives someone who has little contact with their surroundings. Such a person is vulnerable when something goes wrong.
