We are looking for a sweet quiet reading volunteer for 4 -year-old shy child. You can really make a difference by contributing to this little child's language development in a happy way.
Job tasks and duties
The family is from West Africa and has lived in the Netherlands for several years now. It is a sweet and warm family. The mother does speak Dutch and father English but it would be very nice if someone would like to practise the language with this 4-year-old boy for an hour a week. The family is looking for a sweet quiet read-aloud volunteer (they themselves nominated a student, for example).
The boy is somewhat insecure in both language and behavior and is expectant. He is curious and when you have contact he is so open and enthusiastic. Reading a book, playing football, climbing and clambering in the playground will make him very happy. This is possible on these days: or Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday - after 2:30 PM.
Job skills and qualities
You must be able to speak and read Dutch and be able to put yourself in the shoes of a young child. As a reading aloud volunteer, you are available for a longer period of time, about a year. This way, you get to know each other well. Enjoyment of language is paramount. You can read, talk and also play games with the child. It is nice to involve the parents as well.
Extra information
As a Humanitas read-aloud volunteer, we first get to know you, and join you in the pairing. The volunteer coordinator then remains available for questions/support. Furthermore, we have an intro training for reading aloud, online training and various meeting to also get to know fellow reading aloud volunteers and exchange experiences.
