Do you have green fingers, knowledge or affinity with plants and like to roll up your sleeves? Then come support our team of volunteers for our Rock Garden!
A volunteer in the Rock Garden will contribute to the maintenance of this special garden. Together with an enthusiastic team, you will take care of the large variety of mosses and plants, and ensure that the garden remains a beautiful, inviting place for our visitors.

Job tasks and duties
About the Rock Garden:
The Rock Garden came into existence in the year 1970. In this year, a huge amount of clay soil was released from a construction pit from the neighbouring former Biological Centre. This soil was used to build a mound. This hill, which was not covered with rocks at first, was called "The Mountain" at that time. Later, this soil was covered with rocks. This made the rock garden a reality.
Today, various species of mosses and rock plants grow in the rock garden, as well as native herbaceous plants, such as wild Columbine, grass carnation, spur flower, wall snapdragon, felty hornwort and true bitter herb.
Job skills and qualities
- Has green fingers;
- Has knowledge of and/or affinity with plants, preferably knowledge of alpine plants;
- Likes to help maintain and strengthen Hortus Haren;
- Has experience with gardening or would like to learn;
