Interesting about this job
For this specific request for the family from the Korreweg neighbourhood, we are looking for a quiet female volunteer who enjoys providing practical support in the family. Due to sometimes short nights, it is quite tough for the parents to be busy with the boys 24/7, a few extra helping hands would be very welcome.
A Home-Start volunteer, you are there for parent(s) who could use an extra helping hand. A volunteer says: "It's not so much that people are parenting wrong and therefore need help. The problem is mostly that they do it alone and don't know exactly how to do it. Then it is useful to be able to chat to someone and tell your story. If you can release tensions a little, then there is room to think again. And to do parenting the way you want to do it yourself, and not the way you think it should be done."
What we offer:
- Fun and useful volunteer work.
- Contact with parents and children.
- Support and guidance from a coordinator.
- Training.
- Be part of an enthusiastic group of volunteers.
Job tasks and duties
A family, a job, the household, illness, sometimes parents have to do a top job. The 'gold' of Home-Start are the volunteers who have experience in raising children. Every week, the volunteer comes to give exactly that support that helps the family get through this period of 'peak workload'. Parents can tell their story, receive support or practical tips and help with contacts in the neighbourhood.
One half-day a week, you offer the family the support that directly meets the family's demand, for example:
- Someone who listens to a parent's stories, with an open mind, without judgments.
- A single parent who wants support in bringing up the children.
- Practical help with the care of the children or housekeeping.
- A family wants to broaden its network and find out what facilities there are in the neighbourhood.
Job skills and qualities
- Someone who wants to commit to this programme for a longer period of time and can thus be a reliable support to a family.
- Someone who has experience in raising children.
- Someone who is stable, patient, flexible and has people skills.
- Someone who 'can be there' is not quick to judge and has a positive attitude to life.
Extra information
The next training sessions are in the new year. After the training, there are return meetings every 8 weeks to share your experiences. In addition, the coordinator is available for individual questions and/or support.
