Humanist speaker at funerals

Humanistisch Verbond, afdeling Humanistische Uitvaart Begeleiding Groningen • job opening nr. 14090

Interesting about this job

Do you want to be there for others during a time of grief and loss? Then perhaps a humanist speaker at funerals resides in you.
The greatest reward is the satisfaction this work gives but we also offer a volunteer allowance. As a humanist speaker at funerals, you are there for others in a moment of farewell and mourning. You work from humanistic values and contribute to a farewell that connects to what the deceased considered important in life. This gives the farewell extra meaning.

Job tasks and duties

At one of the most difficult moments in their lives, you are there for the bereaved. As a humanist speaker at funerals, you will work with them to shape a speech that does justice to the life and memory of the deceased. That is your core task. You may also be asked to contribute to the choice of music or the composition of the script for the funeral meeting. This way, you shape the funeral ceremony together with the next of kin and the funeral director. You will offer a listening ear, give a speech focusing on the life story, and with your help you will ensure a personal and dignified farewell.

You will also be there for people who need help recording their life story. This activity can help with the process of preparing for impending death. There may also be the intention to have the life story used during the future funeral.

Minimum education level: hbo/wo
