A lady aged less than 60 recently lost her partner. She would like to talk about her loss experience, possibly during a walk. Will you offer her the listening ear she so much needs?
Job skills and qualities
You:
- Able to listen well and empathise with another.
- Understands what the other person is going through and wants to take time for their story.
- Know how to ask questions that help the other person a little further in the process.
- Likes walking.
Extra information
A volunteer at Support for Loss offers support to people struggling to cope with a loss. This support is temporary (varying from a few months to a maximum of a year) and requires 1-2 hours per week. You often know from your own experience what grief can bring about and you understand that everyone grieves in their own way and at their own pace.
You offer caring attention and usually that is enough.
