The volunteers work from the Family Centre and are available to the wards by phone. As a volunteer, you will welcome relatives of patients who have just been admitted. Furthermore, chat with visitors to the Family Centre and keep the room tidy. Volunteers may pick up relatives from the central hall to make them feel welcome and seen. You can be deployed by the ward to provide attention and distraction for admitted patients who need it. You can also help with meals.
Job tasks and duties
You as a volunteer:
- Greet the relatives of admitted patients and offer them something to drink.
- You can show the loved ones of the admitted patient around the UMCG.
- Provides distraction to admitted patients at the request of the department through conversation.
- Contributes to ensuring a cosy and inviting atmosphere in the Family Centre.
- Contributes to decorating the ward for seasonal themes, e.g. Christmas, Easter, etc.
- Will be assigned to tasks involving support to the department. This is always done in consultation with the direction nurse and will never be a reserved task. This coordination takes place at the beginning of the shift.
Job skills and qualities
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- Good command of the Dutch language both verbally and in writing.
- At least available for 1 year. Affinity with healthcare. Able to perform physical work, you are in good physical condition.
- Affinity with voluntary work and this is a conscious choice.
- Good communication skills.
- Representative. Able to work solo and independently.
- Able to work well together in a team. Availability at least one half-day a week.
- Able to deal with patients with psychiatric vulnerability.
