Are you studying law and would like to gain practical experience while helping people in the process? Then come and join our team at the Steunpunt Huren Groningen. We are a small friendly foundation dedicated to providing free and accessible (legal) advice to tenants. In doing so, we often mediate between tenants and landlords. Our office, located on the Damsterdiep, is in a former café, which contributes to the cosy and informal atmosphere on the work floor. We also have monthly drinks and the occasional outing with our team.

Job tasks and duties
As a volunteer at the Steunpunt Huren Groningen, there are several tasks you will perform. You will give tenants legal advice and, where necessary, mediate between tenants and landlords. This will be done in different ways:
- In the office, you will mainly answer questions by e-mail and look for solutions. You will often work together with the other volunteers, in order to reach the best possible solution for the tenant.
- Every Wednesday from 13:00 to 15:00 we have a walk-in consultancy where you will speak to people in person and provide advice.
- You may also make home visits, for example to identify a property's defects and carry out a rent check.
- Not only will you gain practical experience here, you will also learn how to draft correct (legal) emails, deal with all kinds of different people, and negotiate with landlords. All this in collaboration with fellow volunteers and the foundation's director. As you will be in direct contact with tenants and landlords, you will gain practical experience at the same time.
Minimum education level: hbo/wo
Job skills and qualities
We are looking for WO or HBO law students in Groningen who have a strong interest in tenancy law and are available at least 4 hours a week. In addition, we find it important that someone is intrinsically motivated to help others and can work both individually and as part of a team. Naturally, we find it important that someone has a good command of the Dutch language, both verbally and in writing.
