In Groningen, the first Maggie's Centre is being built on the grounds of the UMCG. The centre will offer a healing and homely place where people who are (or have been) affected by cancer, together with their partners, family members and friends, can go free of charge for an integral offer of psychological help and counselling, complementing the medical care the hospital can offer.
We are looking for an enthusiastic host/hostess who can contribute to this and provide a warm welcome.

Job tasks and duties
As a host/hostess, you can;
- Ensure a warm welcome so that visitors (can) feel at home.
- Offering a cup of coffee or tea and having a chat with visitors.
- Explaining the possibilities within our centre.
- Find out and anticipate to the reason why visitors come to the centre.
- Referring a visitor to the relevant professional where necessary.
- Make sure the centre is clean, neat, tidy and welcoming.
- Make sure all supplies are in order and remain replenished.
Job skills and qualities
- Has affinity with our target group and the field.
- Has empathy and a sense of responsibility.
- Visitor-oriented, representative and hospitable.
- Knowing the boundaries between the tasks of a volunteer and the professional.
- Holds good communication skills.
- Able to perform physical tasks.
- Masters the Dutch language both verbally and in writing.
- Available for a longer period of time, preferably at least ééone year.
- At least 21 years old and not studying.
- één half-day (4 hours) per week is available according to a fixed schedule and also occasionally één half-day extra is available due to illness or holidays.
- is available for meetings several times a year (compulsory nature).
- Computer literate (communication centre is via email).
Extra information
Construction of Maggie's Centre started in early 2023 and we expect the centre to open by mid-March 2024. The centre will be open from 9-17.
