Every Friday we offer a hot meal to the homeless in the living room of De Spilsluizen. For many, this is the highlight of the week, for some the only hot meal they consume that week. So how meaningful is it that you can play a big part in that? You can do most of the volunteering in your own home. Then again, if cooking is your hobby, what's stopping you?
Job tasks and duties
As a volunteer home cook, you will be part of a pool of volunteer home cooks. They take turns preparing a meal at home for about 35 people; in a special app group, we keep each other informed about what's on the menu (so there's not stew or pasta on the menu every week) and let you know how visitors reacted to your creation. In practice, this means we expect you to prepare a delicious meal in your home once every 4 to 6 weeks.
At a glance:
- You will be rostered once every 4 to 6 weeks to prepare a delicious meal.
- You will do your own shopping for the meal. The target amount is 70 euros for 35 servings.
- You take into account that some homeless people do not eat pork.
- You cook the meal in your own time in your own kitchen.
- You let us know via WhatsApp what's on the menu.
- You deliver the meal on Friday morning around 9.30am to Spilsluizen 5.
- Shelter volunteers will prepare the bain-marie cart if needed. They serve the meal. If you like it, you are welcome to help out on those Friday mornings.
- You will declare expenses incurred through the Salvation Army's volunteer portal.
Job skills and qualities
- You love to cook.
- You are creative.
- You work hygiënically.
- You are able to deliver the prepared meal on Friday morning to De Spilsluizen 5.
