Interesting about this job
No activity is the same, lots of encounters and children who appreciate you doing this with them.
Target group is children aged 8 to 18 years.
Job tasks and duties
Time4You offers information sessions and weekly group meetings for children and young people (aged 8-18).
VluchtelingenWerk Nederland is a professional volunteer organisation. We represent the interests of and support refugees, including children. In the Netherlands, thousands of refugee children and young people grow up in asylum seeker centres and emergency shelters. They are vulnerable and deserve our attention. Especially for them, VluchtelingenWerk has developed the Time4You project.
Are you enthusiastic?
Would you like to help children and young people staying at an (emergency) reception location?
Time4You provides information and weekly group meetings for children and young people in asylum seekers' centres and emergency reception locations. During the meetings, we discuss’s themes, provide information, give children and young people space to ask questions or share their stories, and organise fun activities. Time4You focuses on the empowerment of children and young people living in asylum seeker centres and emergency reception locations and stands up for their interests.
Every Time4You meeting, we engage in relaxed and playful discussions with the group based on a theme. Time4You's are organised for children aged 8 to 12 and for young people aged 13 to 18. Time4You is facilitated by an enthusiastic team of 2 to 4 volunteers per group. The teams are supervised by the Refugee Council team leader.
What will you do? Prepare, inform and observe.
As a Time4You supervisor, you will contribute to the content of the thematic meetings. You will prepare and facilitate the weekly meetings together with your team. These take place on a fixed day in the week. Every now and then, you also facilitate an information session. In total, you should allow for an availability of about 4 hours per week. As facilitator, you will also be responsible for keeping the attendance records on a weekly basis, in collaboration with your team.
Finally, you have a signalling role to recognise ‘worrying’ behaviour and discuss it with your team leader.
When?
The parts of the day on which the meetings take place are determined in consultation, and depend on the possibilities at the emergency reception locations. In Groningen, we mainly operate on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. During the whole afternoon you will be on location to prepare the meeting and invite the children. The actual meeting with the children will be at the end of the afternoon.
We offer you:
A stimulating and challenging work environment with room for your own development. Plenty of opportunities to learn more about other cultures. A pleasant team in which everyone supports each other to help refugees move forward together. All volunteers work under the supervision of a professional.
VluchtelingenWerk offers a familiarisation programme including the compulsory basic course, workshops and training sessions, and you will receive travel and expense allowance. We also ask all our employees to provide a Certificate of Good Conduct.
