What is a savings circle?
Savings circles are self-help groups in which members learn from each other how to handle money, themselves and each other well. Each participant sets a goal in advance for which to save. During regular meetings, group members put in an amount that can vary per member and per meeting. After a period of about 9 months, each member gets the savings back. However, the savings circle is about much more than just saving: it is also about motivating and inspiring each other and exchanging experiences. Therefore, the savings circle is also a training ground for social skills. Participating in a savings circle increases social and financial resilience.
