Buddy for someone at the Van Mesdag clinic

TBS patients can apply to Humanitas for a buddy to visit them or accompany them on unaccompanied leave. Patients at the Van Mesdagkliniek often have had very limited contact with the 'outside world' for a long time; this step outside can be quite exciting. That is why the contact with a buddy, the attention and the chat is very important.

The function

A volunteer buddy helps make the step back into society easier. It involves real 'doing' activities, such as exploring the city together, walking, cycling or getting a cup of coffee on a terrace. Some people don't know Groningen yet either and then you can also show someone around.

In an introductory meeting, we will look together at which participant matches your interests, hobbies and preferences. This way, we look for the right click and that makes the contact valuable for both.

The introduction is at the Van Mesdagkliniek. The first appointments are inside the clinic. If it goes well and both parties get along well, the appointments take place outside the clinic.

The frequency is once every three weeks and this can be built on, for a period of a year.

As a buddy, it is important that you have an affinity with the target group, stand firmly in your shoes, are a good listener, balanced and independent.

Most participants are male and 30+, they often express a desire for a volunteer of their own age (25+). Are you not, but interested anyway? Please do contact us!)
