Together with a fine team, you can make a big difference for women trapped in prostitution. The Overweeghuis is a citizen initiative and an independent foundation in a shelter for 5/6 women. This foundation was set up because there is (currently) no low-threshold (crisis) shelter for these women in Groningen if they want to get out for a while or if they have not yet decided to leave prostitution permanently. As a result, they hardly get the chance to be in a calm and loving environment in which they can think about how they want to shape the future, what other possibilities there are and how they can achieve these. The Overweeghuis offers temporary, accessible 24-hour (crisis) care with as few rules as possible. To ensure the approachability, there are a few volunteers who contribute to safety in and around the nearby area of the house.
During the stay, they stop working within prostitution and receive help with controlled drug use. They are also monitored that they do not cause neighbourhood nuisance or harass other fellow residents.
Job tasks and duties
You are on standby duty for a (part of the) week, from Monday to Friday from 5 pm to 9 am or at the weekend from Friday 5 pm to 9 am on Monday morning. Volunteers can call on the on-call service in cases such as:
- Calamities that cannot wait until the next day. For example, the volunteer is seriously worried about a resident and would like to spar about this with the on-call service.
- There is a registration for The Overweeghuis at the weekend or in the evening. Consult with the on-call service about whether or not to admit.
- Acute scheduling problems, consult with the on-call service about a creative solution.
- Other urgent matters.
Minimum education level: hbo/wo
Job skills and qualities
- Experience in coaching and/or consulting.
- Self-reliant.
- Stay calm in emergencies and keep an overview.
- Solid footing and clear boundaries.
- Ready to learn and able to receive feedback.
- Able to think broadly.
- Telephone skills.
Extra information
- Education/training on the problems of the target group.
- You will be supervised by a Project support officer/ Coordinator.
- Travel allowance.
- If you work an on-call shift for a week, you will be compensated 40 euros per week.
- Times can change, you have to fill them in yourself.
