Both the work in the store and the board work are done on a voluntary basis. This means that everyone is very motivated and involved in the organization and that we all try to raise as much money as possible. You work together with a very varied group of people towards one common goal. You can arrange your own working hours, meetings are held once every two weeks.

Job tasks and duties

Number of hours for this position variable and negotiable.

Duties as secretary:

  • Taking minutes during meetings.
  • Drafting the monthly Update and contributing to the national newsletter.
  • Managing the e-mail account.
  • Streamlining internal communications.
  • Assisting PR including writing promotional texts.

Minimum education level: hbo/wo

Job skills and qualities

As a secretary you can work well within a team of board members and volunteers, you can work independently and you dare to take initiative. It is important that you are systematic and creative, can communicate well and can manage people where necessary. Affinity with the Books 4 Life organization and its activities is important.

Extra information

The Books 4 Life Foundation is a second-hand bookstore where all kinds of books, from novels to cookbooks, are sold for charity. Half of the proceeds are donated annually to Oxfam Novib and Amnesty International. Where the remaining half of the money goes is determined by the store's volunteers and customers. There are now seven Books 4 Life branches in the Netherlands, including one in Groningen.
