Working with fun, inquisitive adults is great! You get support from the language house coordinator and advance training enables you to interact better with the target group. You are enormously important to the other person in improving their language and thereby also promote self-reliance and self-confidence.
Job tasks and duties
- Guiding an individual participant on location at the language house.
- Together with the participant matched to you, you will agree when you will meet.
- These are people who have volunteered to work on Dutch language, numeracy and digital skills.
- Four training sessions prior to mentoring are part of this voluntary work. These are trainings on: target group and backgrounds, guiding on speaking skills, guiding on reading, guiding on writing.
- Lesson materials are available.
- Signalling and reporting bottlenecks in the participant's trajectory to the language house coordinator.
Job skills and qualities
We require volunteers who are proficient in the Dutch language and enjoy working with (non-native) adults.
A language volunteer:
- Has patience.
- Has an interest in other people (and cultures).
- Has enthusiasm to motivate others to learn the language and participate.
- Can improvise.
- Is open to feedback.
- Enjoys working with the Dutch language.
- Can work independently.
- Minimum MBO-4 education.
