Host/Hostess the Stee

Stay room De Stee in the UMCG is looking for a host or hostess. The accommodation room welcomes oncology patients who, for example, have to wait longer for an examination or interview to take place that day, or for the start of chemotherapy. It also accommodates patients who undergo radiotherapy twice in one day, often requiring five to six hours to bridge the gap. In the accommodation area, the emphasis is on relaxation and atmosphere; the room exudes warmth and security. Volunteers are present to play the role of hostess/host. They can also accompany patients to and from other rooms, such as the Radiotherapy Department.

• You provide a warm welcome to patients and companions.
• You will contact relevant departments in case of patient queries.
• You ensure that required materials remain replenished.
• You accompany patients to the right place in the Stee and explain the possibilities (internet, rest chairs, food and drink).
• You have a chat with the patient or offer a 'listening ear' if necessary.
• You take care of offering something to eat and drink.
• You assist and accompany patients to other wards.
• You take care of a clean and tidy pantry.
• You look after newspapers, magazines and make sure the Stee is neat and tidy.

• You are at least 21 years old, not studying.
• You have a good command of the Dutch language both verbally and in writing.
• You are available for at least six months.
• You have an affinity with healthcare.
• You have an affinity with volunteering and this is a conscious choice for you.
• You have a customer-oriented and empathetic attitude towards patients, carers and visitors to the Stee.
• You have good communication skills.
• You are representative.
• You can work solo and independently.
• You are available for at least part of a day per week.
